Dr Fiona C van Heerden is a female General Dentist.
Fiona is an eight generation Kiwi who studied at the University of Otago and was awarded her degree with Credit. She was awarded multiple distinctions and academic prizes during her study. As one of the top students in her year, Fiona then secured a position as a Dental House surgeon at Canterbury Health. The opportunity to work as a dental house surgeon provided her with valuable experience with surgical extractions- including wisdom teeth, intravenous sedation and working with medically compromised patients.
Fiona then settled into private practice, moving to St Heliers Dental Centre in 1999. When St Heliers Dental Centre introduced Cerec in 1999, Fiona became one of the first dentists in New Zealand to use the Cerec system. This system enables us to provide the most durable and aesthetic restorations currently available- while minimising the amount of tooth tissue which we need to remove. Recent developments have enabled us to provide implant crowns in a much more cost effective manner for patients.
As with all of our dentists at St Heliers Dental centre, Fiona is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and regularly attends continuing education courses- with a particular emphasis on courses related to endodontics and the use of the Cerec System.
Fiona feels extremely fortunate to be able to work in such a friendly, welcoming practice with a real commitment to patient care. She regards the most important part of dentistry to be prevention and derives real pleasure from working with people and families to develop and maintain healthy, attractive and comfortable smiles.
