Dr Tess Matias is a female who speaks Tagalog (as well as English).

Dr Tess Matias obtained her undergraduate dental degree from the University of Western Australia in 1996, and went on to work in private dental practice in Esperance and then in Darlington. She moved to Queensland in 1999 to undertake specialist training in Periodontics at the University of Queensland (1999-2001). On completion of her degree, she maintained a private specialist practice in Brisbane, with Brisbane City Periodontics and Implants (BCPI) from 2000-2011. During this time, she held part-time teaching, research and clinical appointments at the University of Queensland, School of Dentistry. Her teaching roles included undergraduate teaching of Bachelor of Oral Health and Bachelor of Dental Science students, while contributing to post-graduate supervision. In 2011, she completed a Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) in Immunology studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms of mucosal and bone wound healing. She then commenced study on her second specialist degree in Dento-maxillofacial Radiology which she completed in 2013 with distinction. She is the first Australian dual-registered specialist in Periodontics and Dento-maxillofacial Radiology, and practices in both specialities. She is a member of the European Academy of Dento-maxillofacial Radiology, the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the International Association for Dental Research, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, in addition to various specialist groups in Australia and New Zealand.

Tess undertakes the full range of periodontal procedures but is particularly interested in periodontal surgery.
